The Night the Reindeer Saved Christmas (Picture Book)

I’m finding it really hard to find gifts this year. Not being able to go and browse shops, really makes it hard. I feel like when it comes to shopping online, you have to know exactly what you want to buy, otherwise you just find yourself browsing through pages and pages of the most popular items, which aren’t necessarily the best or most unique! With that in mind, I thought it could be fun to spotlight some books that would make nice gifts for various people/ages.

I don’t have a lot of experience with picture books, but I was recently sent this one for a bookstagram tour and I think it’s pretty special for a number of reasons. The biggest reason is the sheer diversity amongst the elves and the Claus couple themselves. It’s so rare to find a Christmas book that isn’t white washed, I have never seen a Santa who isn’t white personal, similarly Mrs Claus. I think its a wonderful idea that children can open a book like this and find someone who looks a little like themselves, just sprinkling a little extra Christmas magic to the story.

As well as the diversity, I also thought it was quite informative for a little picture book. There were a couple of interesting facts about the animals that live in the Arctic. I particularly liked that there was a big point made to highlight that all Santa’s reindeers would have been female if they had antlers. I loved that they managed to keep the story fairly traditional, whilst highlighting that ladies have their important part to play on Christmas day too.

Personally I thought this was a brilliant book, and I’ve already bought two copies to gift. If you’re interested I’ve linked two places I found the book in stock below to save you having to search it out. If you have any other favourite picture books, please feel free to suggest them in the comments!

Happy holiday shopping!
